Class Update
* This is the season of giving and I'd love it if our class can truly get into this Harvest Food Drive. We are so blessed to have food and a shelter and I hope we can all make a small difference to give food to the less fortunate. I highly encourage you to give your children the opportunity to use some of their money to sacrificially donate to this cause by buying some food on your next trip to the grocery store. We CAN make a difference together!
* This week our class will be reading Katie's Trunk, a story from our HM Anthology about the American Revolution and the Patriots and the Tories/Loyalists.
* Room 12 will continue to write some amazing poetry this week when we learn how to write Cinquains and Acrostic poems. In addition, we will be practicing our two poems for the recital.
* In Science we are a little behind so we will power through our Water Unit this week.

CLASS UPDATE
* Today our class started the "RTI Reading Team Time" and it was a big success! Students love their teachers and it should be a big success in helping students reach their full potential in reading comprehension.
* In Math our class will be adding fractions and mixed numbers in HM. I will post a couple Educreations lesson links on the sidebar.
* In American History we are working on group projects on the Colonies.
* We are finishing our final drafts of our spooky stories this week.

Also, our class earned their first class party by filling in our Awesome Apple Chart. This means that on Friday, October 26th, our class voted on the movie: Sandlot. This movie is rated PG 13 for some minor language. I have shown it to 3 other classes. If you do not want your child to view this movie, please reply to this e-mail and I will give them an alternative activity.
The class voted on CRAZY ELECTRONICS DAY. This means they can dress up, (HALLOWEEN WARMUP), in anything they want and bring their favorite electronic device. We will still take our tests in the morning, but have fun afterwards.
I NEED A PARENT WHO CAN GO PICK UP A FEW PLATTERS OF SANDWICHES AT SUBWAY ON FRIDAY MORNING at about 11:30 a.m. I will pay for the sandwich tray from some of our class funds. Please let me know if you can do this.
Also, I usually have parents bring in some treats, plus fruit, drinks and veggies. Are there any volunteers? I know we have a plethora of food coming on Halloween already, but the class earned this party!

That's it for now!

ROOM 12 UPDATE

Dear Parents and Students,
I look forward to our Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. Please remember to fill out and return the parent input forms because these help inform our time together. I have received about 1/2 of them from the class.

In class there will be no Spelling/Vocab Homework this week, but we will be doing a lot of exciting things in Room 12...

First, we will be reading about the amazing life of Michelle Kwan in our HM ELA Book.

In addition, we will be reviewing our Science Unit of Study on the Periodic Table to prep for the test on Wednesday. Hopefully your child has completed their study guide that I posted last Tuesday.

We are writing about our favorite hobby this week while focusing on organization and details.

Our class will be choosing News Team stories this week.

There will not be as much homework this week so I hope students will take that extra time to do a little bit each night on the Cereal Book Project. See the pic below for an example.

Parents and Students from Room 12,

* On Monday I will be collecting the textbooks and students will hopefully bring in all Accelerated Reader books borrowed from the class.
* This Tuesday our 5th graders will be quizzed on the Capitals of the 50 states. Our big Boardwalk trip will be from 10:30-3:30pm. Students should bring a lunch with water and put on sunscreen. Please make sure to pick up your child at that time.
* On Wednesday our class will do a book exchange. For each book they bring they get a ticket to buy a different shared book. Furthermore, this week we will do a couple of fun writing activities.
* On Thursday we will be playing Mr. Kitch in our annual Kickball battle between 5th grade classes.
Also, on Thursday afternoon we will have our last Big Spin of the year to honor excellent citizenship, academics, reading and sportsmanship. You are invited to this special event.
* Friday is a short day and we will sign yearbooks, share favorite memories and watch the teachers beat, I mean play, the 6th graders in softball.

It has certainly been a memorable year!
