LAST WEEK!

Parents and Students from Room 12,
Believe it or not, we have made it through together already! There are only four more days of school left and we have some fun things planned this week...
* This Tuesday our big American Revolution Play will be starting at 8:10 a.m. so please be at school early to get on your costume and get ready to sing and act your heart out!
* Also, tomorrow some AP high school students will be sharing their Environmental Science Presentations with our class at 10:25 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend this if they wish.
* I will be handing out the yearbooks Tuesday, as well.
* On Wednesday our class will do a book exchange. For each book they bring they get a ticket to buy a different shared book. Furthermore, this week we will do a couple of fun writing activities.
* On Thursday we head to the Boardwalk so I'll post the drivers on Tuesday afternoon. Make sure to have your season pass if you did not pay for the ticket.
* Friday is a short day and we will sign yearbooks, share favorite memories and watch the teachers beat, I mean play, the 6th graders in softball.

It has certainly been a memorable year!

MAY 23 - 27th

Parents and Students,
There will be very little homework this week and NONE next week! We will be finishing My Side of the Mountain along with our News Team Presentations. In the Computer Lab we will be finishing, printing and glueing our Presidential Cube Projects. This means each child will need to bring in a cube-shaped box of Kleenex. (it can be empty, or not). We will be doing some fun end-of-the-year writing projects that should be entertaining. This is also our last week to finish up our A.R. books. It is very important that each student return all of the class books this week because our class next year will want a good selection of A.R. books too.
It should be another busy, but fun weeks. Also, let me know if you would like me to e-mail the powerpoint project to you that we did in the lab.
See you at the school where kind hearts and open minds rule!

Mr. Sweet’s Update:

Open House is this Thursday night at 6:30 pm. Our class will be sharing a Poetry Recital from Power Points at 7pm. Each child will be reading their kindness poem out loud so please make every effort to have your child here at 7pm If you are unable, I will have a student volunteer read their poem. Also, our amazing class Science Projects will be on display along with many projects each child has completed in their Writing Portfolios. Make sure to take a class tour to see many colorful projects around the class. Finally, check out the class book entitled, Our Persuasive Class.

In class we are learning many new things and working very hard…even though testing is done, the show must go on! They’ll get a break….over the summer!

In writing we are finishing up our creative and colorful Cinquain and Opinion Poems, where we focused on Style and Voice.

In Math we are reviewing fractions, an area where many still struggle.

In Reading our class is going through our final book together about survival in the forest entitled My Side of the Mountain. There are spelling/vocabulary words for this book that we are going over together and being tested on Fridays.

WEEK OF MAY 2nd-6th

Dear Parents and Students of Room 12,
We are back for the home stretch and it is my hope that our class finishes out this last month in top form. This week we will be finishing CST testing. Tuesday and Wednesday will be devoted to Language Arts while Thursday and Friday will focus on Science.

The only homework students have is to finish up their Science Projects and prepare their speech, which are due this Wednesday. Today we assigned days that each student will be giving their project speech so make sure they practice well...do not talk to the poster board! Here is the link of the grading sheet I use: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31737054@N06/3388216382/

In writing students will be focusing on a fun project that makes their writing come alive with STYLE. You'll see the finished product next Thursday, May 12th, at Open House 6:30pm-8pm

This week our class is also learning the songs that go along with the play and practicing our lines for the play.

In reading we started a new book called, My Side of the Mountain

Finally, please make sure your child shows up well-rested, with a good breakfast each day this week!

23 more days to go!
Mr. Sweet
