 Dear Parents,

We have made it through our second week together Distance Learning style. Our class is doing a fantastic job adapting to 6th grade procedures, curriculum and assignments. I wanted to let you know that there are THREE things to pickup on Monday 8am - 6pm:

  • Our Studies Weekly Newspaper Week 1-6 and our

  • Science World Magazine and

  • Science World Packet

For those of you who have not done so, please sign up for the iGrade book and share the login information with your child so that they can see how they are doing in class. I e-mailed all of you invitations. If you didn’t receive it, check your junk mail and then e-mail me back. If you still don’t have the invite, I will resend it to you.

Each week I will send out the Weekly Overview Plan at 9am to the Google Classrooms. To view the schedule, simply click on the Classwork tab, then click Resources, and find the schedule posted. The kids can share this with you because they are already adept at locating everything!

I encourage each of you to check the blog and check-in with your child to make sure that they are doing the Asynchronous work each day. As the year progresses, they will become truly independent. However, at the start of the year, some definitely need more check-ins.

To clarify, each day we have Synchronous Learning with the teacher from 9:00am-12:20pm. Next, lunch is 12:20-1pm. Finally, they should be working on their Asynchronous work from 1-3pm. During this time, I am available for chat and video conferencing through Google Hangouts with students that need extra support.

Our Virtual Back to School Night Zoom will be on Tuesday, September 15th at 6pm for 6th grade.

Let me know if you have any questions, or concerns.

All the best,
Mr. Sweet

WEEK 2 August 24-28th

Dear amazing 6th graders and families,

Welcome to Week 2 of school! These are trying times for us all. I know over 10 families that have been evacuated and more lightning storms appear to be coming this week, potentially. My own sister and best friends have been evacuated. Please reach out to me via e-mail/chat and let me know if you are in this situation so that I am aware. Also, I  know some of you are hosting families, which can make for a chaotic learning situation. We will get through this together.

Parents can pick up the curriculum, packets, books and supplies on the cafeteria benches near the back. Each child's name is on the stack to take. The cafeteria opens at 8:00 am and you can pick them up until 6pm. Attached below is a picture of our bench! Please do not have the students start ANY of the work until I schedule it in class so we can go over it together. Some of the packets will last a few weeks.

On Monday morning we will begin with our daily class meeting to talk about how things are going and do a little check-in. I will post our asynchronous work(done independently) here each day after online instruction takes place. Our lesson plan overview will be shared in Google Classroom each Monday morning at 9:00 am. It is located under the "RESOURCES" tab of classwork.

Let's have a great week of learning and growing together even through these difficult times.

Blessings on you and yours,

Mr. Sweet

August 14th, 2020

Dear Parents,

I look forward to meeting each of your children online this coming Monday, August 17th,

at 9:00 a.m. for our first Google Meet together. I’m excited to begin this adventurous

new journey together in learning. We will meet every day at 9:00 a.m. so your child

can voice their opinions, concerns, and questions. 6th grade has the best curriculum

schoolwide so you are in for a treat! I will be your guide as we explore the incredibly

unique and fascinating learning 6th grade has to offer.

Your child’s login information is their student ID followed by their birthdate. Like last year,

they simply enter our google classroom and click on the “Meet Link” at the top left.

In case they are unable to find this, here is the link for our meetings all year unless we

utilize Zoom:

Mr. Sweet
