WEEK of October 29-November 2nd

Dear Parents,
A big thanks goes out to all the parents who made our class-earned party special with veggies, fruit, treats and drinks. Thank you Susan Walton for buying Subway Sandwiches for the class!
* This Wednesday, as you know, is the big day. Our party will follow the Halloween Parade at about 9:00 a.m. We look forward to the festivities. In addition to the fun, our class will learn about the History of Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos. Thank you Sheila Hurley for organizing the big shindig.
* In Reading we will be starting a novel together in RTI entitled Sign of the Beaver. Our 10 vocabulary words will come from this book. During RTI we will learn the words and they should practice them at home. Go the Spelling Blog at: http://mrsweetspelling.blogspot.com
* In American History we will be teaching each other about colonies with the posters and lessons we learned  together in our groups.
* When our class goes to the computer lab we will be researching a colony for a group "Museum Exhibit Project" This will take the place of a test on the various colonies. Students will have to do 3 components: writing, art, and a graph/diagram/timeline.
* Throughout the week we will do a Reader's Theater when we share our "Spooky Stories" with the lights out and the microphone turned up. a
* In art we will be creating Dodecahedron Pumpkins, and Dia De Los Muertos Skulls.

That's it for now!

CLASS UPDATE
* Today our class started the "RTI Reading Team Time" and it was a big success! Students love their teachers and it should be a big success in helping students reach their full potential in reading comprehension.
* In Math our class will be adding fractions and mixed numbers in HM. I will post a couple Educreations lesson links on the sidebar.
* In American History we are working on group projects on the Colonies.
* We are finishing our final drafts of our spooky stories this week.

Also, our class earned their first class party by filling in our Awesome Apple Chart. This means that on Friday, October 26th, our class voted on the movie: Sandlot. This movie is rated PG 13 for some minor language. I have shown it to 3 other classes. If you do not want your child to view this movie, please reply to this e-mail and I will give them an alternative activity.
The class voted on CRAZY ELECTRONICS DAY. This means they can dress up, (HALLOWEEN WARMUP), in anything they want and bring their favorite electronic device. We will still take our tests in the morning, but have fun afterwards.
I NEED A PARENT WHO CAN GO PICK UP A FEW PLATTERS OF SANDWICHES AT SUBWAY ON FRIDAY MORNING at about 11:30 a.m. I will pay for the sandwich tray from some of our class funds. Please let me know if you can do this.
Also, I usually have parents bring in some treats, plus fruit, drinks and veggies. Are there any volunteers? I know we have a plethora of food coming on Halloween already, but the class earned this party!

That's it for now!

ROOM 12 UPDATE

Dear Parents and Students,
I look forward to our Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. Please remember to fill out and return the parent input forms because these help inform our time together. I have received about 1/2 of them from the class.

In class there will be no Spelling/Vocab Homework this week, but we will be doing a lot of exciting things in Room 12...

First, we will be reading about the amazing life of Michelle Kwan in our HM ELA Book.

In addition, we will be reviewing our Science Unit of Study on the Periodic Table to prep for the test on Wednesday. Hopefully your child has completed their study guide that I posted last Tuesday.

We are writing about our favorite hobby this week while focusing on organization and details.

Our class will be choosing News Team stories this week.

There will not be as much homework this week so I hope students will take that extra time to do a little bit each night on the Cereal Book Project. See the pic below for an example.

That's it for now!
