In addition, we will wrap up our Medieval Power Point Projects in the Computer Lab on Wednesday. Part of this assignment will be a portrait of their famous person. Each student will have all week to create their own portrait of their hero. We will print up a pic from the Internet and do the rough drafts in class on Monday and Tuesday. Students may use the paper I provide, or even get fancy and use a canvas. This art will be displayed on the wall in class.

In Math we will resume our work with fractions when we begin adding and subtracting mixed numbers with different denominators.

In writing we will begin our 5 paragraph essays about what we are thankful for. Finally, in American History we are learning about the original colonies and each group chose a colony to study.

Last, but not least, I have a tradition each year to have a Thanksgiving Feast. Each child signs up to bring some family dish and shares it with the class on Tuesday, November 22nd. Tomorrow I will send home the form and you can write down 3 of your favorite dishes. From this, I will e-mail the menu. Parents are all invited!

Dear Parents,
* Our week begins with a bang on Monday when we have the Halloween Parade at 8:15 a.m. Please make sure, like Ms. Dorney’s message specified, that the costumes are appropriate with no weapons, gory costumes or suggestive clothing. The class party will be from 1-2:10pm. A big "Thank You!" to all the parents who have volunteered to help and bring goodies.
* In class we will be continuing with the book Crispin. The class did a wonderful job in our Literature Circles last week and we will resume this week. To extend learning about the Middle Ages, our class is working on a Famous Person from the Middle Ages project in the Computer Lab. Ask your child who they chose to learn about.
* In Science we will be doing group projects to review The Structures of Living Things Unit to help prepare us for the test on Thursday. I decided to move the test because of Halloween.

Parents and Students from Room 12,
Last Friday was a great day taking assessments with the Smart Responders and the Spelling/DLR test. This was followed by Electronics, Pajamas and Soul Surfer, a movie they chose. Thank you so much to the parents who brought in treats...they were delicious!

This week we will start with our field trip to the Tech Museum on Monday, which will culminate our Unit of Study of Chemistry and Extreme Weather. I appreciate the parents who volunteered their time to drive over to San Jose.

There will still be homework on Monday consisting of 20-4-1 and Math L24/odds, and we will get our Spelling/Vocab from Sign of the Beaver words on Tuesday. I will also hand out our first Book Project, which will not be due until the latter part of October.

Also, only about half of the class have taken A.R. quizzes. As a reminder, A.R. is 20% of the reading grade. If they meet their goal, that is an easy A for that 20%! The deadline to take quizzes the first trimester is Tuesday, November 1st. Read on!

In American History we are learning about the Explorers and the process of Cultures Meeting/Clashing.

Finally, please bring your news team article stapled to the cover sheet. If you have not finished the summary, you will have time either Monday, or Tuesday night.

See you in the class "where we use our hearts and minds well."
