CLASS UPDATE

A lot is happening this week! We have the two-part Family Life presentation that they have all been talking about! Wednesday will be part 1 of the "talk". We will be discussing conception and HIV. On Thursday the girls and boys will be divided into two groups and discuss puberty. I encourage you to discuss these topics with your child, as well. We have a question and answer time afterward both discussions/videos, which is done anonymously in written notes. Inappropriate questions are omitted.

On Wednesday we will have the States Test on a map. They will need to know the names and location of the states. Geography practice packets will be due on Wednesday.

On Thursday will be the Constitution test in History. (our last test of the year!)

On Thursday students from the AP Environmental Studies class from Aptos High will be sharing their final presentations to the 5th Grade Classes.

I encourage all of you to read stories from your child's Google Classroom account. They are amazing!

Also, initially I was going to be teaching 6th grade, but that has changed and I will be back in 5th next year. Sorry for the mixed message.

The end is nigh!

WEEK OF MAY 11-15th

TESTING WEEK!

This Monday we used the Chrome Books to be tested in ELA and Tuesday we did the Math portion.
On Wednesday and Thursday we will be doing the Science Testing with paper and pencil. Next Monday we will resume the performance tasks and do makeups for the students that were absent.
No homework during testing other than Accelerated Reading.

As a reminder, this Thursday is Open House at 6pm.

We will have some special songs that we will be performing along with a Powerpoint Friendship Poem presentation. This will be a good time to tour the room and see many of your child's writing and art projects from the school year.

May 4th-8th

May the 4th be with you!

A lot is happening in Room 12!
Reading/Writing-We have ended RTI and our class is reading a fun and engaging book: "Tall Tales". It is about famous people from America's past including: Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyon, Davey Crockett and more. This book uses hyperbole in excess! We will be doing Literature Circles together this week so each student will have a job assignment each night.
In addition, we will be writing our own "Tall Tales" as a fun, culminating activity.

Spelling Vocabulary-Courtroom Vocabulary/Constitution from History

Math-We are continuing our Review from the year in preparation for testing, which starts next week.

History-We are learning about the US Constitution!

Geography-Our class is learning the 50 states and Capitals along with where they are on the map.

Courtroom Learning-Bob Wall, a local lawyer, will be teaching our class about the Cookie Court  trial and what it's like to be a lawyer this Thursday.

Friday-Field Trip to Watsonville Courthouse-We are leaving at 11am so drivers need to be here no later than 10:50 to get directions and info about the trip.
