Dear Parents and Students of Room 20,
Welcome back to school now in 2024! I hope you all had a memorable and restful well-deserved break and holiday celebration. Mine was filled with fun, laughter, rest and precious time with my own kids who came back from college. For me, it was a time to refresh, read, rest and exercise a bunch. What were your highlights?! Please email any memorable moments, if time permits.
Here is a quick update about much of the exciting learning happening in Room 20:
This week our class will continue learning about the Ancient Egyptians in History. If you have any unique things you learned, youtube clips, or fascinating articles, please do share.
In Geography we are learning the 50 United States and Capitals (Review for most). Each student will also chose 2 states to do a brief project.
In writing, we are starting our Informational Writing rough drafts and learning from Mentor texts.
In math we will start Tuesday learning about Equations and Inequalities.
We are starting a new unit in ELA about Exploration from "My Perspectives". Our essential question that we will explore is: What drives people to explore? All of the stories will focus on this theme.
Finally, I am reading aloud to the class about Martin Luther King Jr.’s abundant life in celebration of his holiday. We are also looking up quotes and watching two of his significant speeches followed by journaling and deep discussions.
Let me know if you have any questions as we launch together into 2024.
Mr. Sweet
