WEEK OF JANUARY 17-20th

 Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school! I would have sent this last week, but it was kind of a weird start missing two days. I hope that you have all remained safe and sound during these crazy storms. This is the most damage I have witnessed in town since I was 10 years old in 1983. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the thoughtful cards, sweets/gifts, and gift cards prior to the Winter Break. I feel truly grateful and honored to be your child’s teacher this year and I’m so proud of your child’s progress thus far.

Here is a quick update about much of the exciting learning happening in Room 20:

This week our class will begin learning about the Ancient Egyptians in History.

In Geography we are learning the 50 United States and Capitals (Review for most). Each student also chose 2 states to do a brief project.

In writing, we are starting our Informational Writing rough drafts and learning from Mentor texts.

In math we have started Chapter 7:  Equations and Inequalities.

We are reading an exciting book entitled Tuck Everlasting, which explores the notion of eternal life.

Finally, I am reading aloud to the class about Martin Luther King Jr.’s abundant life in celebration of his holiday. We are also looking up quotes and watching both of his significant speeches.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a fun and safe week!

Mr. Sweet
