Week of October 14-18th

Room 12,
Thank you parents for showing up for conferences last week! I truly enjoyed our discussions about each child's progress and look forward to seeing the kids reach their learning potential this school year. This week the 6th graders take off for Science Camp on Tuesday, along with the teacher! I will be with the 6th graders at camp Tuesday through Friday, and Ms. Ferrero will be my sub. Lots of learning will be happening, nonetheless. Here is what is coming down the pike this week:
RTI-Our reading skill focus for the week will be the main idea/topic when we read about Mae Jemison, an amazing astronaut and scholar. Last week the class did exceptionally well identifying the story structure components, averaging an amazing 98% on the post assessment and 99% on the story comprehension for the week.
Math-We will wrap up our unit on fractions and take the assessment on Chapter 7 on Tuesday. After this we will begin learning how to add and subtract with mixed numbers in Chapter 8.
History-Our new unit of study on the colonies begins Monday.

The Harvest Festival is Friday, and I look forward to seeing you there!

Mr. Sweet
