Room 12 Update
* Our Heritage Power Point Projects have been amazing! I am so proud of their speaking skills, integration of technology skills and extensive research and interviews. They learned so much about their families and roots! I loved the stories, sayings and amazing pics too.
* We will be doing CST Testing starting Tuesday, April 30th. 5th grade does ELA, Math and Science. PLEASE make sure your child shows up each day on time, well rested and fed healthy meals. We will finish our last section on Wednesday, May 8th. Please make sure your child brings a couple books to read during testing so they have something quiet to do after finishing. Our class has worked really hard to learn the standards in 5th grade and I would love to see each student give it all they got and achieve even higher than last year!
* In Science we are learning about Weather along with some review to prepare for CST. Many standards reviewed on CST were from 4th grade so hopefully they learned about Magnetism, Electricity, Photosynthesis and Rocks and Minerals!
* In writing we will be finishing our final drafts of our Persuasive Essays in class.
* At the computer lab we are researching a Famous Medieval individual. We are also doing a portrait of our person using the Internet images to help guide our finals.
* Students should be working on their Science Projects at home because they are due on Tuesday, May 14th.
* Very important: students need to listen to the Constitution play cd and sing along with their words from their script. Most of the class is not really singing the songs, nor have they practiced at home. If our class don't sing we will not be able to the play...it is a MUSICAL ;-)
We are doing pretty well with our lines
* No Math, Spelling, Vocab, DLR, or Reading homework!
That is it for now!
P.S. If anybody wants to bring gum for the class during testing that would be great!

Week of April 15-19th
Room 12 Update
Reading- This week we will be finishing up Crispin and reading Ch. 48-end. Our reading skills focus in 5th Grade are: Asking Questions and Perspectives.
Speech-About 2/3 of the class has finished their Power Point Projects on their Heritage Report. We will be practicing our speeches. For those not finished with their Power Points, they will work at home on them. For those that don't have powerpoint, type up each page on a word processing document and save to a flash drive. Next, we will have time to finish, copy and paste them onto the presentation on Thursday in the Lab. Some students are wasting time in the lab and lagging behind.
Math-We are reviewing the 5th Grade Standards in class and doing the Spiral Review assignments
Writing-This week we are continuing our Persuasive Essays. Some students need to get more research at home to support their positions.
History-We will be finishing up our unit of study on the Constitution and taking our last test in History next Friday, April 19th! The study guide link is posted on the right sidebar.
Play- We will be practicing our play and singing the songs together to get ready for the performance in late May. The specific time and date is coming soon.
That's it for now!

Room 12 Update
* We have our Heritage Projects due this week on Thursday, April 11th, so there will be little homework to focus on, hopefully, the finishing touches. Remember to complete each required part of the project from the guideline sheet that was sent home. You can also click on the Heritage Report link on the right side of the blog. PLEASE BRING DIGITAL IMAGES FOR YOUR POWERPOINT PROJECT on Wednesday. We will use the powerpoint project to give our speech.
* Next, with all of the extra time over the break, you are more than welcome to begin your Science Project. It is not due until Tuesday, May 7th. I signed and returned the Investigative Plan and sent home the poster board directions. There will be NO written report required, just the Poster Board and speech.
* In RTI we are continuing Crispin chapters 36-47 and our Comprehension Reading Skill and Strategies are Main Idea and Supporting Details along with Monitoring/Clarifying. We will have 10 challenging Spelling/Vocab words, so make sure to learn and practice these during the week.
* In Math we will be focusing on Integers...adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.
* In History we will start Ch. 10 on The Constitution. I hope we all pay attention and learn a lot about this important time in history because it is the central theme of our play and the most important document in our country. Hopefully our presidents will follow it!
That's it for now!
