CLASS UPDATE

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS goes out to LAUREN JACQUE who won the COUNTY SPELLING BEE competing against the best spellers, including 6th graders, in the county! This is the first time this has ever happened in my class.  She moves on to the State Finals on April 21st. Make sure to cheer her on!

Our RTI classes are reading Black Cowboy Wild Horses, another story about life on the frontier. Our reading skills and strategies being taught are Making Judgments and Evaluating.

In Math we are continuing to study Geometry now in Chapter 19 in HM.

In Writing we are beginning a Project entitled 3 Things that incorporates writing, creativity, performing and a DVD culminating portion.

I started reading aloud a book entitled "Schooled" that brings together issues of popularity, peer pressure, bullying, naivety and innocence.

In History we are beginning Chapter 9 about the American Revolution War.

In Science we are reviewing the Body Systems Unit to study and prepare for the test on Thursday.

I am sending home the big Heritage Project today. This project is a very extensive one, but is always my class-favorite of the year. The first order of business for this project is to schedule interviews with family via e-mail, in person, on phone etc. On the project are some potential interview questions.

On Friday is our Class Party! We will be having pizza watching either Chasing Mavericks or Here Comes the Boom. They have worked hard and filled up their party chart. Please let me know if a parent can pick up the pizza from Pizza 1.

Each student will bring $3 for the pizza. I will cover the remainder from class funds, if necessary.

That's it for now! More to come soon.
Mr. Sweet
