WEEK 12

Dear Parents and Students of Room 12,
We will only have class Monday - Wednesday this week in observance of Veteran's Day.
As a result, our homework will not be the same this week. We will still be reading Crispin and doing a little math.
However, there will be no spelling or vocabulary this week. Hooray!
In class we are each going to be learning about a famous person from the Medieval Times to extend our learning
of the middle age from Crispin. Each child will be researching using our computers, including our new iMac, about one of the following:
1. William Tell
2. Richard the Lionhearted
3. Robin Hood
4. King Arthur
5. Lancelot
6. Thomas Aquinas
7. Joan of Arc
8. Robert the Bruce
9. Galileo
10. Queen Elizabeth
11. Mary, Queen of Scots
12. Saladin
13. Vlad Dracula

22. William Wallace-Braveheart
23. Kublai Kan
24. King Edward Longshanks

27. Nostradamus
28. Elenor of Aquitaine
29. El Cid
30. Johan Gutenberg
31. Paracelsus
32. Michalengelo
33. Donatello
It should be a fun class project which incorporates: technology, writing, art, research and CURIOSITY!
Each child will share their Middle Age Project with the class in the form of a speech. Students will video tape and edit
each speech with our flip camera. This will be an in-class project that will not be due until Friday, November 19th. Students
will practice their speeches in class and at home with cue cards.
See you at the school where kind hearts and open minds rule!

WEEK 10

Dear Parents,
I wanted to let you know about all of the exciting things happening in Room 12 this week. In reading we are continuing the exciting book entitled Cripsin, which takes place during the Middle Ages in England. Our class is using the iPad to learn new vocabulary in class and read it using the iBook. For spelling we learned some Crispin words along with a couple Halloween words for the week. This week we are creating our speech outlines about our Cereal Box Project. We will be practicing and presenting them next week so make sure they practice eye contact and volume to prepare well. In writing the class just finished typing their “Frustrations” essay. This week we are writing our “Spooky Stories” which incorporate the usage of similes, dialogue, an exciting “hook” intro and descriptive vocabulary.
Our last day to take A.R. quizzes will be on Wednesday, November 3rd. Our class is now doing our Newsteams with a Flip Camera without having to write a summary.
This Friday our class will be taking part in the Halloween Parade at 8:30 a.m. rain or shine. Please make sure, like Ms. Dorney’s message specified, that the costumes are appropriate with no weapons, or suggestive clothing.
Next Friday our class will be going to the Tech Museum to take part in the Periodic Table Lab “Elements of Innovation” and we will be seeing Lewis and Clark. Once again, the drivers are:
Berhan (up to 6 students)
Black (6)
Chamberlain (5)
Hall (4)
Jeffery (4)
Rubio (4)
Spinelli (4)
Welle (5)
Zimmer (3)
Finally, this class has been simply amazing with the donations that you provided for our classroom. I wanted to thank you SO much for your generosity and commitment to helping our class to have an enriched environment. Below are some amazing things I have been able to purchase for the class… You’re donations are truly making a difference in this class.
* Ipad (From Scholastic Book Order Bonus Points)
* Ipad apps-Ibooks for class, Periodic Table, Star and much more
* Digital Microscope for Science to be used with laptop and projector
* Science Projects-Weather, human body, conduction
* Flip Camera/Tripod- for newscasts to be posted on blog
* HP Color Printer
