WEEK OF DECEMBER 18-20th

Dear Parents and students of Room 20,

First, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of the parents for the amazing gift certificate to Mentone. My family will be going on Christmas Eve Eve to celebrate the best bread, salad and Pasta in Santa Cruz!

Tomorrow is our well-earned class party with BYOB. "Bring your own bed". Students can bring a blanket, pillow and stuffed animal. We will have Mexican Food and watch Ratatouille. Please make sure your child brings a change of clothes for the winter musical recital at 1pm.

On Wednesday we will take our Europe Map Test along with our Holiday History Quiz. I encourage students to study their notes and maps! Also, I will be collecting our Poetry Folders this Wednesday so students need to make sure they have the following final draft poems:
Diamante (1)
Haikus (3)
Free Verse
Famous Poem
Cinquains (2)

Opinion/Foods (2)
Finally, please make sure your child brings a gift that is wrapped to participate in the White Elephant gift exchange game on Wednesday.

Dear Parents,

You are invited tomorrow morning for our big Poetry Recital at 8:30am to 9:30am. There will be treats served after the recital.

Students should be dressed up in the morning for the recital. They can change afterwards.

Also, this coming Tuesday, December 19th, the class has some fun things planned. We finally filled up our party chart and they decided on a party theme: BYOB (LOL)...This stands for bring your own bed. Students may wear pajamas and bring stuffed animals, pillow and a blanket to the party. They voted to watch Ratatouille and have Mexican Food from De La Colmena. We will use some of the money left over from the field trip to cover the cost so I won't need to charge anybody. I will send home progress reports this day for parents to sign and return.

Next, that Tuesday afternoon will also be our Winter Music Recital at 1pm in the cafeteria. There will be no seating for parents, but you can stand. The musical teachers will also lead a few songs during intermission. BRING A CHANGE OF CLOTHES FOR RECITAL

Students will wear:
DO:
Wear festive holiday colors!! Redsgreensblues, silver, sparkles, etc!
Christmas/Hanukkah sweaters!
Santa/elf hats!
Dresses/suits
Or Concert black
Closed toed shoes
Hair out of face

DON’T WEAR:
Baseball hats/hoods over head on stage!
Preferably no ripped jeans/shorts (we want to look nice)
Pajamas

On our last day of school this year on December 20th, students will bring a wrapped gift that is $20, or less intended for both boys and girls. We will participate in the White Elephant Gift Exchange after lunch at 1pm-2pm.

December 4-8th

 Dear Parents and Students,

First and foremost, I  would like to thank the amazing parents that took the time to get TB tested, turn in insurance paperwork, get fingerprinted and drive our sweet 6th graders over to the Tech Museum in San Jose. It was truly an enlightening trip with the profound iMax Movie about the history of Jerusalem and the engaging Engineering for Earthquakes Lab in the morning. See pictures below!

This week we will be doing MAP testing starting Monday and Tuesday with ELA. On Wednesday and Thursday I  will allot time for the Math MAP testing. Please make sure your child gets to bed at the right time each night for optimal learning and growth during the day, as always.

As a reminder, your child's first book project is due this Tuesday, December 5th. Hopefully they are caught up and prepared to turn it in Tuesday. Thus far, 6 students have already turned them in early.

Our Poetry Recital will be next Wednesday, December 13th, at 8:30am. The Poetry Cafe with treats will be at about 9:30am. Parents are invited to the recital and cafe to see their child recite an original poem along with a famous poem that resonates with them. I  encourage parents to listen and give feedback to their children practicing at home prior to the recital. If not, have each amazing 6th grader record themselves on an iPhone/Android and watch how they use eye contact, expression, volume, elocution, articulation and gestures to maximize their poem.

Blessings,

Mr. Sweet
