August 26-30th

CLASS UPDATE

Class Update

Thus far, these 6th graders have learned class procedures, rules and expectations. There have been no serious behavior issues, which is outstanding. 
Here is a learning overview of Week 3:

English Language Arts (ELA)-We will read Chapter 7 through 13 this week in Hatchet. Spelling Vocabulary will be from this story. We will be learning about story structure, parts of speech and 3rd person point of view, as well. 

In accelerated reader we will be doing the Star Assessment and receive our AR Goals for the 1st trimester. Parents and students will sign and return the Star report with goals this week.

Math-We will take the MAP test on Monday and will be grouping students accordingly into three groups: Approaching Grade Level, (Seahawks), at Grade Level (Eagles), Above Grade Level (Rockets)
Room 20 is learning about Prime/Composite #s, Estimation and Exponents/Powers.

In Science we are learning about Plants this week.

WEEK OF AUGUST 19th - 23rd

CLASS UPDATE:
Room 20 had an awesome short week together getting to know one another. This week we hit the ground running!
In English Language Arts we started Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and we are doing an interactive journal to deepen our learning. Our spelling vocabulary comes from this book this week and the words will be posted on the blog tab above.
In Math we are taking the MAP test to establish differentiated math placement groups for school the year. (More to come about this at Back to School Night). In addition, we are starting Chapter 1 in math, which focuses on Number Sense.
In Geography we will start learning about the countries in Africa. 
Science Camp forms should be coming home by midweek.

iGrade-Have your parent create an acct and learn the password. I will send each of them an e-mail invite to first e-mail given on Tech Permission slip sent home last Wednesday.
