CLASS UPDATE
Congratulations to Owen and Janie for winning the class spelling bee! They will participate in the school wide bee this week.

In Math we continue Unit 4 with Multiplication of 10s and 100s. We need to review adding/subtracting fractions with different denominators. We will continue Moby Max
Math to reinforce new material

In Writer's Workshop we will start "Opinion" writing

In RTI we are continuing the exciting novel, "Holes"

In History we are reviewing the French and Indian War, followed by the skirmishes that lead to the Revolution.

I still need a few drivers on the field trip to Tech Museum on Friday, February 17th.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Week of January 18-20th

Welcome back! I hope everybody enjoyed that extended winter break. A huge thanks goes out to all the parents and students for their thoughtful Holiday gifts! I was blessed to get tickets to go see the Sharks vs. Oilers next week with my wife. Also, thanks to the Ingrams for the Aptos BBQ gift card, the Safari's for the Amazon card, the sweet treats, and family Olive Oil from the Jacobs.  My family enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Cafe Cruz thanks to the Christies. I am truly blessed from all of this.
However, the greatest gift I get is to teach your amazing kids every day!

Here is a quick update in Room 12:

In class we are reading about Martin Luther King Jr. and discussing his "I Have a Dream" speech that we saw today in class.

In Writer's Workshop we are writing about our own dreams for ourselves and collective humanity.

In Reading, we will be doing a Newsela on MLK tomorrow in class and work on summarizing the main points.

In RTI-We start an amazing book....HOLES! This is the first time the 5th grade has gone through this book, as it is usually taught in 6th grade.

In Math we will be starting Unit 4 with multiplication of tens and hundreds along with a review of 1st semester.

In History-We are starting the Unit on the lead-in to the American Revolution

Heritage Project-The project is due in a month, (February 16th), but students should be close to finished with all of their interviews with family. See link on right if your child lost the assignment.
